Ian and Laura like to start their day at Provisions Whistler, located in the heart of Whistler Village on the main stroll. Along with their coffees (made with custom-roasted espresso), they’re fans of the croissants and scones, which are made fresh daily at 5 AM!

Skiing on Whistler Blackcomb

From Provisions, you’re a short walk from the Whistler Village Gondola, Excalibur Gondola and Fitzsimmons 8 Express, which can whisk you onto the mountains for a day skiing the slopes. You can also access Whistler Blackcomb from the Upper Village (base of Blackcomb Mountain) and Creekside Village.

Whistler and Blackcomb mountains are connected by the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola (an 11-minute ride), which gives you 360-degree views of the Coast Mountains while you soar across the valley.

One thing they mention in the video is how the weather is different on the mountain than in the valley, and this is very true. You can check the webcams to get an idea of what’s happening on the slopes; however, Ian and Laura seem to live by the philosophy that any day on the mountain is a good day!

East- and southeast-facing slopes receive sunlight earlier, while west-facing slopes catch more of the afternoon rays, so starting on Whistler Mountain is a good call, with a trip over the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola to Blackcomb Mountain for the afternoon.

Ian & Laura’s Favourite Whistler Blackcomb Ski Runs

Whistler Blackcomb spans 8,171 acres (3,307 hectares) of skiable terrain, making it the largest ski resort in North America. There are over 200 marked runs, 36 lifts, up to 1,609 metres (5,280 feet) of vertical and an average of 10.4 metres (34 feet) of snow a year.

Now, Ian and Laura have been coming here for 20 years, so the runs they mention in the video are of the black variety (advanced skiing); however, over half the runs on Whistler Blackcomb are blue (intermediate) and green (beginner).

Bagel Bowl is on Whistler Mountain, in the alpine terrain on the western side of Whistler Peak, near West Bowl and the Peak to Creek ski run.

• Access: From the Peak Express Chair, follow the Upper Peak to Creek route towards Bagel Bowl
• Difficulty: Black diamond (advanced terrain)
• Known for: Open bowl skiing, particularly enjoyable with fresh snow

Cockalorum, Cream Cheese Ridge and Frog’s Hollow are in the same area.

Spanky’s Ladder is on Blackcomb Mountain, above the Blackcomb Glacier area and is for expert skiers and riders.

• Access: From the top of the Glacier Express Chair, traverse to the base of Spanky’s Ladder, then hike up the steep bootpack
• Difficulty: Double black diamond (expert terrain). Spanky’s Ladder itself is an access hike rather than a conventional ski run
• Known for: Steep, challenging alpine skiing, powder snow and access to the four Gemstone Bowls: Garnet, Ruby, Diamond and Sapphire.
• Good to know: The terrain includes cliffs, rocks and variable snow conditions. It’s for experienced skiers and snowboarders, and access is subject to avalanche control and terrain closures.

Where to Stop for Lunch on the Mountain

Ian and Laura go for the high-end option in the video – Christine’s. This full-service restaurant is on Blackcomb Mountain inside the Rendezvous Lodge, and has incredible views over the valley below.

The food is elevated classics like a smash burger with Canadian Angus beef, a BC Steelhead bowl and the Christine’s Salad, packed with locally grown produce. If you enjoy sharing your food, the charcuterie board is a great option, with the featured cured meats coming from nearby Squamish. They also have a great wine list for that longer lunch!

Other Whistler Blackcomb Food Options

On Blackcomb Mountain, Glacier Creek Lodge offers a pasta bar, ramen, tacos, and beautifully battered fish and chips. On Whistler, the Roundhouse Lodge offers burgers, hot dogs, curries, chilli, chicken strips and fries at the Mountain Market location, and coffees and baked treats at the Cappuccino Bar.

Steeps, Whistler’s fine-dining option, has a new menu rooted in Pacific Northwest cuisine, and is offering Caviar and Champagne service on the patio. We also love a Caesar at the Umbrella Bar (that’s kind of a drink and a meal?)!

On-Mountain Events

Ian and Laura are the kind of people who can find a party anywhere (or start one), but Whistler Blackcomb likes to throw a few too! Last season, US DJ John Summit played a set for free on Whistler Mountain, and you’ll often find DJs knocking out the tunes from the booths at the main hubs on the mountain.

Après-Ski in Whistler

Dusty’s Bar & BBQ is a legendary après-ski spot in Whistler Creekside, with roots dating back to 1969 when it first opened as L’Après. Renamed Dusty’s in 1983 after a taxidermied bucking bronco that became its mascot, the bar quickly became famous for its live music and après-ski scene.

The Hairfarmers are also a Whistler institution, and Ian and Laura are suggesting you combine the two. The legendary musical duo of “Guitar Doug” Craig and “Grateful Greg” Reamsbottom met while performing at a wedding. They formed The Hairfarmers in 1999 and have since become synonymous with Whistler’s après-ski scene, entertaining crowds with their energetic mix of rock, country, folk and everything in between.

Non-Ski Activities in Whistler

“There are no excuses – you could do something every day!” – Ian.

One of the most unique things about Whistler is the amount of activities you can do here, whatever the weather. And talking of unique, Ian and Laura mention the Scandinave Spa Whistler, which is located on the edges of Lost Lake. Guests go on a thermal journey using the outdoor hot pools, cold plunges, saunas, steams and solariums while basking in the beauty of their surroundings.

If slowing down isn’t your style, there’s snowmobiling, ice climbing, bobsleigh and skeleton, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. For inside-based fun, the Audain Art Museum and Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre are must-visits, shows at the Maury Young Arts Centre, dance and yoga classes, racquet sports, axe throwing, a climbing wall and even a pirate ship (that’s part of Escape! Whistler).

They highlight the world-class experiences and how the mountains and community have evolved to offer visitors more and more. Laura mentions the number of activities and how there are people here from all over the world.

If you’re planning a trip, here’s what to expect in Whistler this winter, including what’s new for the 2026/27 season, what to book ahead, how to get around and a few insider tips to help you make the most of your time in the mountains.

Whistler Winter 2026/27: At a Glance

What to Book Ahead for a Whistler Winter Trip

Secure your days on the hill EARLY. If you know you’re coming to Whistler this season, consider a Whistler Blackcomb Day Pass, Season Pass or EDGE Card. Typically, these passes are available until early December, but our advice is to lock them in as soon as you can, as prices increase the closer you get to the season.

We would also advise you to book accommodation, restaurants and activities ahead of time to avoid possible disappointment.

If you’re travelling over a peak period, check the restricted dates attached to your specific Whistler Blackcomb pass product before finalizing your plans.

Getting to and Around Whistler in Winter

Whistler is a two-hour drive from Vancouver International Airport along the stunning Sea to Sky Highway. However, do you like putting on snow chains? We advise leaving the driving to someone else and forgoing the chain pain and parking fees.

Arrive by shuttle, and when you’re here, use local transit or grab a taxi when you need it. Most things happen in, or go from, Whistler Village, which is pedestrian-friendly.

When is the Best Time to Visit Whistler in Winter?

I know you want a concrete answer, but it depends on what you want to get from your time in the mountains. We dive into the average snowfall for each month, possible activities, and events and festivals in our dedicated blog, When to Visit Whistler in Winter.

However, below are some things you might want to consider about timing.

Visit Before Christmas

Consider booking early in the season. Pre-Christmas is a great time to visit Whistler as it has all the festive feels without the festive price tag. Read Early Festive Feels and Deals for more reasons.

If you’ve got a 5- or 10-Day EDGE Card, remember that you could have unlimited early-season skiing or one early bonus ski day to use. This depends on when you bought your pass, so check the details of your specific product with Whistler Blackcomb.

Ski Midweek

Come midweek, and you might just get a run to yourself on Whistler Blackcomb’s 8,171 acres of terrain outside peak times. Restaurants and activities have more openings, too, which means you can pick more of what you want, when you want it.

Consider Spring Skiing

Spring skiing in Whistler is a hidden gem as Whistler Blackcomb has one of the longest ski seasons in North America, typically stretching into May. Longer, sunnier days, fewer people and the occasional pow dump – what more could you want?

Extend Your Weekend

Plan to arrive on Thursday night and leave on Monday morning to avoid some of the weekend traffic. The longer you stay, the more value you can get, along with a free dining voucher if you book an eligible package with Whistler.com.

If you are up for the day, consider staying for dinner or doing an activity after your day on the slopes so you’re not caught in the rush home on the highway.

What’s New at Whistler Blackcomb?

Before we start with what’s new, let’s recap what hasn’t changed. Whistler Blackcomb is North America’s largest ski resort, and with 200+ runs over 8,100 acres of terrain, it’s a proving ground for both powder hounds and cruisey carvers.

Whistler enjoys reliable snowfall (an average of 10.2 metres (33.4 feet) of snow a year) and moderate temperatures, thanks to its West Coast locale and has been voted Best Ski Resort in North America multiple times. It’s a quality AND quantity kind of place.

What happens here is big mountain skiing, the kind of skiing and snowboarding you see in the movies. You know, powder in the face, graceful, arcing turns on long, vertical descents, and cliff drops with pillowy landings. Not quite there yet?

Around three-quarters of Whistler Mountain and 70% of Blackcomb Mountain’s terrain is designated beginner or intermediate, so you can work your way up to those powder turns, or cruise the corduroy at your own pace and take in the incredible views of the Coast Mountains.

Now, let’s dive into what’s new for winter 2026/27.

Whistler Blackcomb Has a New Quad Chairlift

The new quad Showcase Chair replaces the Showcase T-Bar, upgrading access to the Horstman and Blackcomb glaciers – 215 acres of exceptional alpine terrain. Scheduled to open this winter season, the upgrade marks another investment in Whistler Blackcomb’s high-alpine experience while supporting the resort’s long-standing commitment to glacier protection.

Maximizing Winter Daylight With New Mountain Times

British Columbia’s move to permanent Daylight Saving Time (PDT) brings changes to Whistler Blackcomb’s operating schedule. From opening day through January 15, most valley and alpine lifts will open and close 30 minutes later than historically scheduled, with the resort planning to operate from 9 AM to 3:30 PM.

Most Snow School lessons will also start and end 30 minutes later than usual until Whistler Blackcomb transitions back to 8:30 AM around mid-February, with spring operating hours unchanged. 

Reimagined Food & Beverage Experience on Whistler Blackcomb

Diners can expect the ski-day classics, including chilli, burgers, and mac and cheese, all with higher-quality ingredients, alongside signature dishes inspired by Whistler’s West Coast locale.

This season, you can grab breakfast at Dusty’s at the base of Creekside, enjoy a renovated Pika’s at the Roundhouse with a new coffee bar and refreshed comfort fare, and relax on the enhanced outdoor patio experiences at Steeps Grill & Wine Bar on Whistler Mountain and Christine’s on Blackcomb.

Dining on Whistler Blackcomb at a Glance

• Horstman Hut: European-inspired favourites including sausages, sauerkraut, pretzels, and mustards
• Glacier Creek Lodge: Taco, Italian, and fish and chips stations, alongside its famous ramen

Good to Know About Whistler Blackcomb

Cashless Transactions – From ordering food to buying that cool toque (Canadian for hat) you saw at the on-mountain retail store, all transactions happening at Whistler Blackcomb will be cashless again this season.

Whistler Blackcomb Winter Parking Program – WB has a carpooling program to help with parking congestion. Details on how this will work for the upcoming season are due out later this fall.

Whistler Blackcomb Snow School Daily Lessons & Camps

Whistler Blackcomb’s Ski & Ride School has various group programs at all three of the resort’s base locations (Whistler, Blackcomb and Creekside). If you’re looking to get the kiddos into lessons, those are open to book now, with the newish 5-Day Ski Adventure Camp as an option.

If you’re looking for adult lessons, note that if you book two consecutive Day Group lessons, the third lesson is free! There’s also The Camp WB’s premier, multi-day adult ski development program, offering personalized coaching, small group sizes, and a supportive environment designed to help guests elevate their skills and confidence on the mountain. Beyond skill progression, it also provides a strong social element, bringing together like-minded skiers who share a passion for learning and adventure.

Women’s Only Ski and Snowboard Clinics

Whistler Blackcomb has been growing its offering of ski and ride camps for women. Whether you picked up the sport this year or enjoy a double black diamond with your morning coffee, these clinics help hone your skills under top female coaches. You can ski or snowboard, and both clinics are two days of slope-filled fun.

Things to Do in Whistler in Winter Besides Skiing

One of the most unique things about Whistler is how much you can do off the ski hill.

Creating a bucket list is a highly personal thing, but there are some winter activities that are more popular than others. Snow school, dogsledding, ziplining, and specialty snowmobile tours like the Mountain Top Fondue will sell out at peak times over the season, so again, the advice is to book those must-do activities ahead of time.

Don’t miss Vallea Lumina, a multimedia experience in the forest or relaxing in the hot pools at the outdoor Scandinave Spa. As an Olympic destination, you can experience the thrill of sliding down the same track as the Olympians with Passenger Bobsleigh and Skeleton, or try your hand at biathlon at Whistler Olympic Park.

Whistler Blackcomb Sightseeing

Don’t ski, but love the mountains? Sightseeing on Whistler Blackcomb runs from opening day to mid-April (always check the hours of operation page before you make your plan). At 436 metres (1,427 feet) above the valley floor, the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola is the world’s highest lift of its kind. This marvel of engineering links the Blackcomb Gondola to the Whistler Village Gondola in one continuous lift system, giving you 360-degree views of the Coast Mountains.

We suggest a stop off at the Roundhouse Lodge on Whistler Mountain for access to Steeps and the Umbrella Bar, or opt for a fine dining experience on Blackcomb at Christine’s Restaurant.

What’s New Around Whistler?

New Whistler Restaurants

• Do you like Italian food? Trattoria di Como opened in the spring of this year, and it’s fast become a favourite with locals looking for a touch of Lake Como. Cozy yet refined, this is the place to go for traditional Italian food with an expertly curated wine list.
• The Fairmont Chateau Whistler’s new Wildflower Grill opens this December. Inspired by the Pacific Northwest, guests can expect local ingredients, seasonal influences and thoughtful rituals that bring the character of the region to the table.
• Hilton Whistler Resort & Spa has recently refreshed its iconic Cinnamon Bear. The longtime Whistler favourite now features an inviting, refined design while retaining its signature cozy atmosphere, complemented by handcrafted cocktails, BC craft beer and a shareable menu.
• Thinking of good food and drink, there are two new additions tucked just off the main Village Stroll. Kebab on Fire serves halal Mediterranean cuisine using fresh, bold flavours and time-honoured recipes. It’s right next to Pizza Garden Whistler, another great grab-and-go option located in the Skier’s Approach area close to Earls.
• Also in Skier’s Approach, evo Rentals has opened a new coffee shop, Rhythm & Beans, so you can sip on locally-roasted java while you peruse the latest ski gear.

New Whistler Winter Adventures

• Extremely Canadian is introducing new backcountry programming, including an overnight Avalanche Skills Training 2 course and private overnight adventures to the Kees and Claire Hut.
• Beyond Whistler is offering two exclusive helicopter ice cave adventures on the Pemberton Icefield – an incredible bucket-list-style experience.
• Whistler Olympic Park is offering new small-group Nordic Day Camps, including dedicated Biathlon and Women’s Day Camps plus a new Spring Festival in March.

Whistler Winter Events 2026/27

The winter events lineup looks fun with the Whistler Film Festival, Whistler Pride Festival and World Ski and Snowboard Festival.

If you like a bit of competition, the Kokanee Valley Race Series is a fun, recreational race series open to skiers and snowboarders of all abilities, and then there’s the Peak to Valley Race – one of the longest giant slalom races in the world. Don’t miss Whistler Blackcomb’s Fire & Ice Shows, local comedy nights, live music, art exhibitions and races of all kinds on and off the slopes, to name a few events that happen weekly during the winter.

What is Whistler Weather Like in Winter?

Winter weather in Whistler can vary significantly between Whistler Village and the alpine, so come prepared for changing mountain conditions. Temperatures are generally milder in the Village than they are higher up Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, and conditions can change quickly throughout the day. Because Whistler is close to the coast, temperatures are moderate through the winter season, rarely dipping below -10°C (12°F) in the valley during the coldest part of the year.

What Should You Pack for a Trip to Whistler in Winter?

Layers are your friend. Pack a waterproof outer layer, warm mid-layers, gloves or mittens, a toque and winter footwear with good grip for getting around the Village. If you’re heading into the mountains, check the weather before you go.

In video #8, we touch base with Kirsty Smyth, Zero Waste Program Manager at AWARE Whistler. She chats with Mike about composting, local recycling and shifting our buying thought process.

What is AWARE and the Zero Waste Heroes Program?

AWARE is Whistler’s environmental charity.  Since 1989, we have led climate action, conservation and circular economy initiatives for the local community. Zero Waste Heroes is AWARE’s social enterprise, helping events to achieve their zero waste goals. Last year, over 23,000 people engaged with AWARE’s Zero Waste Heroes program in Whistler, at events, in the parks, and at the Farmers’ Market.

Events bring people together, but they can also generate significant amounts of waste and put pressure on our natural environment. Through the Zero Waste Heroes service, AWARE helps visitors and residents enjoy the events that make Whistler special, while encouraging everyone to leave as little behind as possible. We work with event organizers to provide waste reduction and diversion support, including event planning, on-site waste sorting, and post-event reporting and analysis. 

Zero Waste Heroes is a social enterprise, so when events use us, the money generated goes back into environmental initiatives in Whistler, like our youth engagement programs and our local advocacy work. We have leading waste diversion rates, and our team is highly trained to provide guidance and education to businesses and guests.

Do events have a big waste footprint?

Yes, but we can work with them before, during and after their event to reduce it. Last year, we helped GranFondo and Arc’teryx Academy become Zero Waste Events, which means that over 90% of their waste was diverted from landfill.

We work on waste prevention first by influencing what can and cannot come into the event area. Reusables are our go-to, but if that’s not possible, we can help source compostable options. That way, we have more control over the waste diversion outcomes. 

We also gather lots of data from each event so that we can report back to organizers on what is going well and where there is room for improvement. This means that many of the events that we work with reduce their waste footprint year over year.

How do you get people to trash-talk with you?

It’s mostly easy! People want to do the right thing, but recycling can be confusing. We guide people to the right place when we’re at an event, but we’re also talking to them about better choices for the future.

A lot of people ask us, “Doesn’t it all end up in the same place?” and the answer is, not here! British Columbia has amazing recycling systems; we just need to use them. For example, 99% of the plastics sent to Recycle BC in 2025 went to manufacturers that give recycled materials another life.

Why is composting so important?

One of our top goals is to keep compostables and food waste out of the landfill, because it gets trapped and causes methane, which is significantly more harmful to the environment than carbon dioxide. But if food waste is placed in the organics stream, it can be repurposed locally as soil, adding to a circular economy.

Whistler’s landfill waste is transported to Cache Creek (about 450 kilometres, routed via Vancouver), and so if organic waste is separated and composted within our community, emissions associated with hauling are also reduced. Last year, 39% of Whistler’s landfill waste could have been composted; so we’ve got some work to do!

What can people do?

If Whistler is going to hit its Zero Waste target by 2030, we need an informed and engaged public. We want people to think about the end of its life at the start. If you pick up something and know it will end up in a landfill, ideally, you reconsider your decision and pick something that can be reused or composted. 

If you are not sure whether an item can be recycled, or which stream it belongs in, Recycle BC’s Waste Wizard is an excellent resource to help you understand what goes where. You can also come and say hello to one of our Zero Waste Heroes when you see us out and about in the community – we are always happy to help!

How does the Zero Waste Heroes program contribute to the Big Moves Strategy?

Whistler’s Big Move 6 focuses on closing the loop and shifting towards low-carbon consumption. Through the Zero Waste Heroes program, AWARE helps residents, visitors, event organizers and vendors make better choices about waste and resource use. Se rendre à Whistler et s’y déplacer en hiver 

Whistler se trouve à deux heures de route de l’aéroport international de Vancouver, par la spectaculaire route Sea to Sky. Mais aimez-vous installer des chaînes à neige? Visiter avant Noël

Avant de passer aux nouveautés, faisons le point sur ce qui n’a pas changé. Whistler Blackcomb est la plus grande station de ski d’Amérique du Nord. Avec plus de 200 pistes réparties sur 8 100 acres de terrain, c’est un terrain de jeu parfait tant pour les amateurs de poudreuse que les adeptes de descentes plus paisibles. 

Whistler peut compter sur des chutes de neige régulières, en moyenne 10,2 mètres (33,4 pieds) de neige par année, et des températures douces, grâce à son emplacement sur la côte Ouest. Elle a été élue à plusieurs reprises meilleure station de ski en Amérique du Nord. C’est un lieu de qualité ET de quantité. 

Il s’agit ici de ski de grande montagne, le genre de descente qu’on voit dans les films. Vous savez, la poudreuse dans le visage, les virages gracieux et arqués sur de longues descentes verticales et les sauts de falaise avec des atterrissages en douceur. Vous n’êtes pas encore à ce niveau?

La nouvelle chaise quadruple Showcase remplace le T-Bar Showcase et améliore l’accès aux glaciers Horstman et Blackcomb, qui offrent 215 acres de terrain alpin exceptionnel. Prévue pour ouvrir cette saison, cette modernisation représente un nouvel investissement dans l’expérience de haute montagne à Whistler Blackcomb, tout en soutenant l’engagement de longue date de la station pour la protection des glaciers. 

Profiter au maximum de la lumière des journées d’hiver grâce aux nouveaux horaires en montagne 

Le passage de la Colombie-Britannique à l’heure avancée permanente (HAP) entraîne des changements dans les heures d’ouverture de Whistler Blackcomb. De la date d’ouverture jusqu’au 15 janvier, la plupart des remontées mécaniques dans la vallée et en montagne ouvriront et fermeront 30 minutes plus tard qu’auparavant, donc la station prévoit être ouverte de 9 h à 15 h 30. 

La plupart des cours de l’école de ski commenceront et se termineront également 30 minutes plus tard qu’auparavant, jusqu’au retour à l’horaire de 8 h 30 vers la mi-février, tandis que les heures d’ouverture du printemps demeurent inchangées.  

Une expérience culinaire réinventée à Whistler Blackcomb 

Les clients pourront retrouver les classiques de journée de ski, incluant le chili, les burgers et le macaroni au fromage, préparés avec des ingrédients de qualité supérieure, ainsi que des plats signatures inspirés de la situation géographique de Whistler sur la côte Ouest.

Whistler Blackcomb continue d’élargir son offre de camps de glisse pour les femmes. Activités à faire Whistler en hiver, à part skier 

Ce qui rend Whistler si unique, c’est la panoplie d’activités à faire hors des pistes de ski. 

Créer une liste d’activités incontournables est très personnel, mais certaines activités hivernales sont plus populaires que d’autres. L’école de glisse, les balades en traîneaux à chiens, la tyrolienne et les randonnées de motoneige spécialisées, comme le souper Fondue au sommet de la montagne, afficheront complet en période de pointe tout l’hiver. Ne manquez pas Vallea Lumina, une expérience multimédia en forêt, ou détendez-vous dans les bassins chauds extérieurs au Spa scandinave. Vivez la frénésie d’une descente en bobsleigh sur les pistes olympiques grâce au Passenger Bobsleigh et au skeleton, ou tentez votre chance au biathlon au Parc olympique de Whistler. 

Visite touristique de Whistler Blackcomb 

Vous ne faites pas de ski, mais vous adorez la montagne? Les visites touristiques à Whistler Blackcomb sont offertes de la journée d’ouverture jusqu’à la mi-avril. (Consultez toujours les heures d’ouverture avant de planifier votre visite.) À 436 mètres (1 427 pieds) au-dessus du fond de la vallée, la télécabine PEAK 2 PEAK est la remontée mécanique de ce type la plus haute au monde. Cette prouesse d’ingénierie relie les télécabines de Blackcomb et du village de Whistler en un seul trajet continu et offre une vue à 360 degrés sur la chaîne de montagnes côtière.

• Le nouveau Wildflower Grill du Fairmont Château Whistler ouvrira ses portes en décembre prochain. Inspiré du Nord-Ouest du Pacifique, les clients peuvent s’attendre à des ingrédients locaux, à des produits de saison et à des rituels culinaires réfléchis qui reflètent le caractère de la région. 

• Le Hilton Whistler Resort & Spa a récemment rénové son emblématique Cinnamon Bear. Quel temps fait-il à Whistler en hiver?

Aprovecha al máximo la luz del día en invierno con los nuevos horarios de la montaña

Tras la decisión de la Columbia Británica (B.C.) de adoptar el horario de verano permanente (PDT), habrá cambios en el horario de operación de Whistler Blackcomb. Desde el día de la inauguración hasta el 15 de enero, la mayoría de los lifts del valle y de la alta montaña abrirán y cerrarán 30 minutos más tarde de lo programado históricamente, y la estación tiene previsto operar desde las 9:00 a.m. hasta las 3:30 p.m.

No te pierdas Vallea Lumina, una experiencia multimedia en el bosque, y luego relájate en las piscinas calientes al aire libre del Scandinave Spa. Como este es un destino olímpico, puedes vivir la emoción de deslizarte por la misma pista que los atletas olímpicos de tobogán Bobsleigh and Skeleton, o bien puedes probar suerte en el biatlón del Parque Olímpico de Whistler.

Turismo en Whistler Blackcomb

¿Te encantan las montañas pero no esquías? Hay recorridos turísticos en Whistler Blackcomb desde el día de apertura hasta mediados de abril (siempre revisa la página de horarios de operación antes de hacer tu plan). A 436 metros de altura sobre el fondo del valle, la Gondola PEAK 2 PEAK es el teleférico más alto del mundo de su tipo. Getting to Whistler

Whistler is a scenic 90-minute drive (127 kilometres) north of Vancouver. You don’t need a car in Whistler, as most things are walkable.  Hop on a shuttle from Vancouver, kick back and enjoy the ride while you take in the stunning vistas as you travel the Sea to Sky Highway. If you want to make the journey part of the adventure, you could also consider a float plane. 

Where to Stay 

Whistler Village – Be surrounded by the energy of Whistler Village. You’re steps away from the lifts, bars, restaurants and iconic nightlife. It’s the best location if your aim is to be social. Pangea Pod Hotel offers a modern, pod-style experience right in the heart of Whistler Village and is a hub for solo travellers. 

Upper Village – A quieter location about a 5 to 10-minute walk from the main village. If your visit feels more like a retreat filled with restful recharge and a calmer vibe, this is your location. 

Creekside Village – Another option for those searching for a quieter, more restorative time. Nita Lake Lodge is Whistler’s only lakeside accommodation, also offering great dining and spa treatments.

Cheakamus – For backpackers, the HI Whistler hostel is the official HQ. It’s about 20 minutes away from the Village, with a transit stop located right outside. The Whistler Athletes Centre is another affordable option in Cheakamus.

Explore Whistler Your Way 

My favourite thing about solo travel is freedom. It’s the autonomy to do what you want, when you want, without needing to consult a group. With so much to see, that flexibility is valuable. My advice? Start with a local tour.

Whistler’s Historical Walking Tour, a Whistler Sightseeing Tour, Valley Trail Bike Tours and self-guided walks are all fantastic options that help you get a feel for the area before you even step on the trails.  

Adventure With Company

Solo travel in Whistler creates a magnetic opportunity to meet like-minded people. There’s nothing like adrenaline-filled activities to bring everyone together. 

Free Mountain Tours – During ski season, join complimentary mountain tours led by volunteer Mountain Hosts. It’s a great way to learn the ski terrain and meet similar-skilled skiers that just might become your ski buddies. You can also ask the local hosts for their Whistler tips! 

Lessons – Whether you ski, snowboard or mountain bike, group lessons aren’t just for beginners. They’re a great way to sharpen your skills alongside people who are just as eager as you are to improve. Golf clinics, yoga retreats, sailing sessions and even adult improv classes are all available, and a great way to meet people interested in the same things as you.

Whitewater Rafting– Nothing forces connection and teamwork quite like rafting down a raging glacier-fed river. Navigate Whistler’s whitewater rafting scene through a collection of class two, three and four rapids located within the Sea to Sky corridor. These guided tours will test your wits, communication and rhythm. It’s a shared adventure sure to bring people together 

Monday Night Rides (MNR) – This is the community event of the summer. For a toonie, you can join one of five difficulty levels. Groups are led by seasoned guides through Whistler’s world-class trail network, and the post-ride apres rewards you with a free beer, prizes and meal deals courtesy of RMU. It’s the easiest place in town to connect with the local riding community.

Tranquil Waters: Whistler’s Lakes

Whistler has five main lakes that are easy to access along the Valley Trail. From south to north, they are Alpha Lake, Nita Lake, Alta Lake, Lost Lake and Green Lake. Each of these locations has limited parking (we suggest cycling or walking), docks, picnic tables, designated swimming areas and of course, incredible mountain views. 

Canoe, Kayak and SUP

Alta Lake has multiple parks around its perimeter, and each one has its own characteristics. Lakeside Park has a sandy beach, grassy lawn, picnic tables with BBQ stands (you need to bring your own propane BBQ), small children’s play structure, docks, slackline posts and washroom facilities. You can also rent a stand-up paddleboard, kayak, canoe or pedal boat to explore the lake.

Wayside Park is slightly smaller with a more tranquil feel, enhanced by the trees surrounding it. It has a grassy lawn, small sandy beach, picnic tables, washrooms and water toy rentals.

Whistler Park Life

Rainbow Park is one of the more popular options on Alta Lake with volleyball courts, a dedicated dog area, a large grassy area for lounging and washroom facilities.

Take a short walk around the park grounds to learn about the historic Rainbow Lodge and its influence on the settlement of Whistler and the start of tourism in the area. If you want more history, visit the Whistler Museum when you’re back in the village. 

Lost Lake is a tranquil option not far from Whistler Village. You can choose to get there on foot, via bike along the Valley Trail, or take the free shuttle service from two spots in the Village (read more about the park shuttles here, as you can get one to Rainbow Park too). Lost Lake offers winding, low-level hiking and biking trails, and at its centre, a cool, secluded lake.

There are a number of docks extending into or floating in the water, with one large beach and grass area, as well as a dedicated dog beach called Canine Cove and washrooms. During the summer, there’s a food truck program at both Rainbow and Lost Lake – yum!

Sailing

You might notice some small sailboats on Alta Lake; these dinghies likely belong to the Whistler Sailing Association. They operate out of the old youth hostel facility located on Alta Lake Road (just down from the turning for Rainbow Park).

You can get a lesson, guided tour, charter a boat, or, if you’re here for a longer stay, consider joining one of their programs for kids and adults. They also offer wing foiling.

Fishing

Fish any of Whistler’s stunning lakes and rivers (we’re known for our trout) with your own gear and a valid BC fishing license, or go with the fishing professionals for a few hours to perfect your cast and find the best spots. Green Lake

Farther north, you’ll find the Green Lake boat launch just off Highway 99 (look for Summer Lane on your right going north). It is just a boat launch, so you will have to rent your desired mode of water transport in Whistler Village or bring your own. Note that motorized boats and floatplanes use this lake too, so keep an eye out!

If you paddle to the north end of the lake, you’ll see the Parkhurst Trail and remnants of old logging equipment and cabins that made up the now-abandoned logging community on the edges of Green Lake. 

How do you start on a lake, see lots of lakes, end on a lake, but never get wet or hold a paddle? On a Harbour Air floatplane tour. Take-offs and landings happen on Green Lake, and even if you’re not taking a tour, they’re definitely a sight to see.

Rushing Water: Rivers

Whitewater Rafting

One of the most exhilarating water experiences in Whistler is on board a whitewater raft tackling the Green River, located at the far end of Green Lake. This whitewater rafting tour is perfect for adrenaline junkies and families looking to get a bit wet and wild (minimum age 10 and weight 90 pounds for the Green River tour). 

River of Golden Dreams

The River of Golden Dreams is located on the north end of Alta Lake and winds its way to Green Lake. The difficulty of this trip depends a lot on water levels (there’s a lot of overhanging shrubbery to avoid, portages and beaver dams) and your level of experience.

We suggest taking a tour, which usually lasts around three hours. Not only do you get paddling tips, but you also get local knowledge on the lush flora and fauna that surrounds you, making for a deeper experience. Note that at the Green Lake end, you’ll be picked up and driven back. There is a twilight tour available if you’re looking for a unique evening activity when the local wildlife is out and about (bears like dusk).

Some people like to head down this river using floaties or inflatable rafts. These often pop up as the foliage around the edges and the rocks along the river bottom can be sharp. The water is cold, and hauling yourself and a waterlogged inflatable (please don’t let it sink) out via the bushes is not a fun way to spend the day.

Farther Afield: Callaghan, Cheakamus and Rainbow

Adventurous paddlers should consider a trip to Callaghan Lake and Cheakamus Lake. You will need a vehicle with suitable clearance and four-wheel drive. If you’d like to earn your swim, a hike to Iceberg Lake or Screaming Cat Lake will do the trick! However, if you hike to Rainbow Lake, take note that swimming is not permitted there. 

Whistler Water Etiquette

Whistler’s environmental group, AWARE, gave us some tips on how to protect Whistler waterways. Invasive species threaten biodiversity, alter habitats and have a serious impact on our health and economy. Some invasive plants, mussels and snails can be so tiny that we don’t see them, but they can have a huge effect on our lakes, rivers and streams.

To help stop the spread of invasive species, clean, drain and dry your water toys before moving from one waterway to another. Here are some other water etiquette pointers for when you’re in Whistler:

• There are no lifeguards at Whistler’s parks and beaches. Make sure you stay within your ability level and remember that mountain lakes can be cold.
• Know that if you are paddleboarding, canoeing, kayaking or using an inflatable boat, you are required by Canadian law to have the right safety gear (like whistles and personal flotation devices). The Conservation Officer Service is actively doing patrols in Whistler to enforce this federal law, and non-compliance may result in a fine for each missing item (ouch). • Stay bear aware at all times and dispose of any food, recycling and garbage in the bins at the parks or take it with you. 
• Speaking of water, be sure to fill your reusable water bottle and drink plenty – you can get it right out of the tap or water fountain.

Whistler Peak has always been home to some of the most breathtaking views in town. I wouldn’t have thought it possible, but Whistler Blackcomb found a way to make your visit to the Peak even more unforgettable – the Cloudraker Skybridge and Raven’s Eye.

Whether you’re an alpine hiking regular or you’re coming for your first visit, you’re going to want to add a trip to the suspension bridge to your summer bucket list. In this blog, we guide you through what you can expect, and we’ve included a video at the bottom to give you more insight.

Where is the Cloudraker Skybridge?

The suspension bridge is located right beside the top station of Peak Chair on Whistler Mountain. Access is included in the Summer Alpine Experience Ticket. You can also access the Raven’s Eye from the bridge on the West Ridge Lookout.

If you’re travelling with kids, note that the height requirement is 40 inches (3.3 feet / one metre) to ride the Peak Chair and that you can’t ride the chair with a child in any form of carrier. To experience the bridge with your little one, you will have to hike there and back, versus taking the Peak Chair.

When does the Cloudraker Skybridge open?

The Cloudraker Skybridge and Raven’s Eye typically open mid-June, but as this is a mountain-based, outdoor activity, its opening date is weather permitting. Always check the Hours of Operation page before planning your visit, just to make sure. It’s usually open until the middle of September.

How to Get to Cloudraker Skybridge

From the valley, you can either upload using the Blackcomb Gondola in the Upper Village and head across the PEAK 2 PEAK, or take the Whistler Village Gondola as the bridge is on Whistler Mountain at the top of Peak Express chair (a fun trip up in itself).

Good to Know – Hiking to and from the Roundhouse

It takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes to hike the Peak Express Traverse from the Roundhouse down to the base of the Peak Chair.

There are two options for your return, and they both require some hiking. You can either take one of the alpine hiking trails for additional views or download via the Peak Chair. If you choose to download the Peak Chair, it is important to note that you will still have to walk back up the Peak Express Traverse from the base of the Peak Chair to the Roundhouse to get back.

At 0.6 kilometres, it is not a great distance, but it is uphill all the way with an elevation gain of 63 metres (207 feet). Depending on the fitness levels and ages of people in your group, this may be challenging after a day of adventuring. Make sure to take water and snacks, leave plenty of time and energy to walk back, and take lots of breaks on your way out.

What to Wear

When planning for your day, you should plan an outfit not only for style but also for comfort. The alpine is typically a few degrees colder than in Whistler Village (see the village vs alpine weather forecast here), so make sure to pack layers, and remember to wear good shoes suitable for hiking.

What it’s Like to Walk the Bridge

I really like this bridge because of its easy access and stunning views. The design of the bridge feels very secure with fully closed sides and small holes on the bottom grating. I will note that it does sway a bit when walking – not enough for me to find it scary, but good to know before you get on.

The bridge is 130 metres (427 feet) long, spanning Whistler Peak to the West Ridge, crossing high above Whistler Bowl. The Raven’s Eye is a cantilevered viewing platform that extends 12.5 metres (41 feet) out from the West Ridge, with exhilarating, 360-degree views.

If you’re not big on heights, you can still check out the bridge from solid ground and enjoy the endless views from the Peak.

When to Go

The Cloudraker Skybridge and Raven’s Eye open in the summer, typically in mid-June (there’s currently no winter access), and the typical hours are 11 AM to 5 PM on weekends and 4 PM on weekdays (always check the hours of operation page for the latest on opening dates and times). I recommend starting your day early for the best experience. There will be fewer people up top, and the light will be better for photos.

The Basics

What is the Whistler Blackcomb Summer Alpine Experience?

A Summer Alpine Experience ticket gives you access to sightseeing and hiking on Whistler Blackcomb. It includes access to the Whistler Village Gondola, Blackcomb Gondola, PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola and Peak Chair. The Peak Chair is the chairlift you use to get to the Cloudraker Skybridge and Raven’s Eye viewing platform (these typically open in mid-June, but check the hours of operation for current information).

When you are up in the alpine, there are over 50 kilometres of trails to explore, as well as restaurants to refuel and relax in. Take a look at the Whistler Blackcomb Trail map to get a sense of what you can do, from short, half-hour loops to full-day hikes.

What is the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola?

The PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola links Blackcomb and Whistler, the two mountains that make up part of our skiing, biking and hiking paradise. It’s a record-breaking feat of engineering boasting an unsupported lift span of 3.024 kilometres or 1.88 miles.

It’s also the highest lift of its kind with an elevation of 436 metres (1,427 ft). Needless to say, with those numbers, it offers some pretty spectacular views of the village, valley, and surrounding mountains – 360-degree views, in fact. The PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola does not depart directly from Whistler Village. First, you ride either the Whistler Village Gondola or the Blackcomb Gondola up the mountain. From there, you walk a short distance to the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola, which travels between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains.

Sightseeing on the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola is available almost all year round, with scheduled downtime in spring and fall for maintenance. Always check the Hours of Operation before planning your visit.

Ticket & Times

Where do I get tickets?

You can purchase Summer Alpine Experience tickets through Whistler.com ahead of time, online or by calling (at least 72 hours/three days in advance). Tickets cannot be printed at home and must be picked up from Whistler Blackcomb Guest Services prior to boarding the gondola.

If you’re visiting within the next three days, purchase your tickets at the Whistler Visitor Centre or a Whistler Blackcomb Guest Services location when you arrive in Whistler. Tickets are generally available same-day, but booking ahead is recommended during peak summer periods.

Packages that include accommodation and sightseeing tickets are available through Whistler.com at discounted rates.

The other thing to note is that the gondolas close for yearly maintenance in the spring and fall, so always be sure to check the mountain operation times before planning your trip.

How much are the tickets?

Is the Whistler Peak Suspension Bridge included in the ticket price?

The Whistler Peak Suspension Bridge (Cloudraker Skybridge and Raven’s Eye) is included in the price of a Summer Alpine Experience Ticket. Please note that access to the bridge is via the Peak Chair, which is only available for sightseeing in summer when weather conditions are favourable. Always check the chairlift operating times before planning your trip.

I’ve got a season pass for the Whistler Bike Park – can I take a day off biking and ride the PEAK 2 PEAK?

Absolutely. If you hold a bike park season pass for the current year, you get unlimited access to the PEAK 2 PEAK and can go straight to the lift with your RFID card.

I’ve got a winter season pass. Can I use it to ride the PEAK 2 PEAK?

Many current Whistler Blackcomb winter season passes include summer sightseeing access (the pass needs to be for the upcoming winter season, not the one before). Check the details of your pass before visiting.

What does the ticket include?

The ticket includes much more than just the ride on the PEAK 2 PEAK. It also gets you:

• Access to all the open-air chairlifts and gondolas operating that day, including upload, download, the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola and the Peak Chair
• Access to over 50 km of hiking, running and interpretive walking trails in summer

What are the operating dates and times for the gondola?

Know Before You Go

Where should I park for the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola?

The closest parking to the lifts is in the Day Lots (pay parking), located between the Upper Village and the Village Stroll. Depending on which Day Lot you park in, the walk is between five and 10 minutes.

I’m catching a BC Transit bus or the shuttle. How far is the bus loop to the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola?

If you are catching a BC Transit bus, the bus drop-off is right by the base of the lifts in Skier’s Plaza, while the shuttle from Vancouver drops you about a five-minute walk away through the Village.

What should I wear to go sightseeing?

It depends on the season! Weather conditions and temperatures will change as you go from Whistler Village in the valley to the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola in the alpine. It is often five to 10 degrees (Celsius) cooler on the mountain, and layers are recommended so you can adjust your temperature accordingly – check out the alpine weather conditions on the day for a better idea of what to expect.

The sun can be strong up high, so sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses are recommended – just be careful they don’t fall off when you are peering down from the chairlift! A light jacket can help cut wind chill, and comfortable, sturdy, closed shoes can stop your toes from getting cold as you ride the chairlifts – they are also great for walking around on the mountaintop.

Do I need to bring anything else?

A sense of adventure and your camera or phone for photos are a good start! There are restaurants, washrooms and shops. If you plan to hike the alpine trails, other gear is recommended, such as hiking boots, food and water, as well as a trail map.

Get to the Gondola

Right. I have my tickets. How do I get to the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola?

The PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola terminals are approximately two-thirds of the way up the mountains, so to get there, you start your journey by uploading from the valley. Access points vary over the season (check the hours of operation page), but typically, you can take the Whistler Village Gondola or the Blackcomb Gondola up the mountain to access the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola.

Can I upload at the Creekside Gondola?

The Creekside Gondola is for Whistler Bike Park users only, not sightseers.

The Ride

Do I need to book a time to board the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola?

No. There are no reservations required for the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola as it runs continuously during the day. Simply upload and walk a short distance to the terminal to catch your ride.

Do I only get one shot at riding the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola?

Your ticket allows one upload from the Village and one download back to the Village during the day. Once in the alpine, you can ride the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola between Whistler and Blackcomb as many times as you like while it is operating. If it is busy, you might be asked to disembark on either side so other visitors can take their turn.

Are there glass-bottomed gondolas?

Yes. There are a few glass-bottomed gondolas in rotation, and you’ll notice a separate line for these inside the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola building. There are also gondolas bearing the designs of local Indigenous artists, which are incredibly striking (read more about the artists in our dedicated blog, Indigenous Art Takes to the Skies).

Will I need to wait in line?

It depends on how many people are on the mountain that day – wait times vary. Lines are usually longer on weekends and during holiday periods, so you might need to allow yourself extra time to board the gondola. Plan ahead and ride midweek, get tickets in advance and go early.

How long does it take to ride the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola?

• Upload from Village: 25 minutes
• PEAK 2 PEAK ride: 11 minutes one way
• Return to Village: 25 minutes
• Recommended total visit time: 2 to 4 hours

The gondola ride is 11 minutes long, making it a 22-minute trip if you opt for a round-trip. However (here’s the important part), it takes approximately 25 minutes to upload to the PEAK 2 PEAK and 25 minutes to return to the Village. We recommend leaving at least 2 hours, minimum, for the sightseeing experience to allow time to upload, ride the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola, and return to the Village.

If you plan on doing any of the other things included in your ticket (dining, hiking, viewing the gallery, riding the Peak Chair) or taking lots of photographs, then give yourself more time. That way, you can avoid scurrying to make your tee-time/dinner reservation/massage appointment.

When is the last ride of the day?

The PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola stops running overnight, and the times of the last ride vary during the season. As a general rule, uploading after 3 PM isn’t recommended as it means you will be hustling to catch the last ride of the day, or could miss out on the gondola ride altogether.

On the Mountains

What exactly is there to see up there?

All the majesty. At higher elevations, the landscape completely changes, and this sightseeing trip is a fantastic way to experience the pure and rugged beauty of the Canadian Coast Mountains.

The experience changes with the season. In spring, the alpine hiking trails are still covered with snow, but Whistler Blackcomb digs out the road up to the Peak Chair for hiking, meaning you can walk between walls of snow from last winter. The snow walls are only available for as long as they last, so this is a unique, once-a-year experience and well worth a trip in early June (exact dates depend on the weather that year).

In summer, the forest makes way to wildflower meadows and scree slopes, boulder fields and towering peaks like the mighty Black Tusk. You can discover jewel-like hanging lakes under distant peaks and massive glaciers in ancient valleys. Depending on the day and season, you might see wildlife: bears, deer, marmots, chipmunks and whiskey jacks are common. You also get a great view of the Village, plus watch people hiking, biking, climbing and more. Is there anywhere to eat?

Absolutely – each mountain has restaurants. It’s safe to say the on-mountain patios have some of the best views in town, so a meal or even an ice cream break up here is well worth it. It’s good to note that Whistler Blackcomb is cashless, so bring your card for payments.

Friday, Saturday and Sundays during summer, you can stay up in the evenings and have dinner with the Mountain Top Summer Feast – a separate ticket is required for this, and it pays to pack a light jacket in case the temperature drops as the sun sets.

Are there any hiking trails on Whistler Blackcomb?

Yes, there is a trail network on each mountain, offering a range of trails from short loops on easy gravel paths to longer, more technical hikes to hidden lakes and lookouts. Depending on how much time you have, you can choose a short loop of an hour or less or a more advanced hike (two to four+ hours).
