Whistler 2013/14 Winter News - Major Lift Expansion
The skiing and snowboarding at Whistler keeps getting better and better.
Whistler Blackcomb has revealed plans for a major lift expansion with not one but two chairlift upgrades to be ready for winter 2013/14.
The Harmony high-speed quad chair on Whistler Mountain will be replaced with a new high-speed chairlift capable of transporting six people on each chair. The carrying capacity on the popular Harmony lift will lift by 50 percent from 2,400 skiers per hour to 3,600.
At the same time, the fixed-grip triple chair in the Crystal Zone on Blackcomb will be superseded by a high speed quad chairlift. The bottom terminal of the new chair will start at a lower elevation along the Blackcomb Glacier Road, simplifying access to both the Crystal Zone and the Glacier Express Chair. Skier carrying capacity will improve by 65 per cent over the current lift to 2,400 skiers per hour.
Construction on the lifts will begin in Spring 2013. The new lifts are expected to open at the beginning of the 2013/2014 winter season.
