Whistler’s Beaches

Whistler’s Beaches

Some of Whistler’s hidden gems are the beautiful beaches dotted around crystal clear mountain lakes. No tides, no currents or sharp rocks here just fresh, clean water waiting for you to jump in. Whistler's weather is warm and sunny during the summer months, so make sure you bring your bathing suit or pick one up at a local shop.

The following parks have lovely sandy beaches for outdoor swimming and activities. Download a Whistler map and head out on a mountain bike. All parks and beaches are connected with the Valley Trail and have BBQs available, but please be aware of fire ban advisories located on-site.

Beaches on Alta Lake

Lakeside Park is located on Lakeside Road (easy to remember!) where you'll find a small beach, kids play area, picnic tables, BBQs, and a concession renting canoes during the summer.

Rainbow Park is located on the west side of Whistler Valley and is a pleasant 20 minute bike ride along the Valley Trail from the Village. It is well worth the time to get there! Just off Alta Lake Road, Rainbow Park has lots of space and was originally the site of the historical Rainbow Lodge built by Whistler pioneer Myrtle Philip.

Rainbow Park has:

  • A sandy beach and shallow waters perfect for kids and families
  • Lots of open space and green grass
  • Picnic tables and outdoor BBQs
  • Shaded areas
  • Beach volleyball courts
  • Washrooms
  • Vending machines and a concession stand

If you decide to drive to Rainbow Park, there is ample parking but it may take you the same amount of time to drive as it will to bike!

Wayside Park has a small beach with kayak rentals, BBQs, and picnic tables and is also located on the shores of Alta Lake. It is close to the Creekside neighbourhood of Whistler, has parking and is also accessible by the Valley Trail.

Beaches on Lost Lake

Lost Lake Park has a popular sandy beach, BBQs, washrooms, a concession stand, kids area and picnic tables and can be found just off Lost Lake Road (also easy to remember!). It's dog-friendly with an off-leash area nearby. (Please be aware of other dog restrictions in the area.) Take in the stunning views as you walk or bike to this easily accessible, yet secluded, lake.

Beaches on Alpha Lake

Alpha Lake Park is at the southern end of the valley in the Creekside neighbourhood. It has a kids' playground, volleyball and tennis courts, BBQs, and a beach. Don't forget the pooch - Alpha Lake Park is dog-friendly.

Beach Activities

Beach Volleyball: Every hot, summer day in Whistler youll find enthusiasts out for a game of beach volleyball. Both Rainbow Park and Alpha Lake Park have FREE sandy, well-kept courts, parking, washrooms, BBQs, and picnic tables. They are easily accessible by car or bike and are linked by the Valley Trail.

Rollerblading: A great way to get to the beach is to rollerblade along the Valley Trail. Stretching for more than 40 km (25 miles), the gradient is light and there’s rarely much traffic. Zoom past golf courses, beautiful Nordic homes, residential neighbourhoods, forests, parks, bogs, streams, and historical areas. Once youve worked up a sweat, head to the beach and jump in!

Many equipment rental shops in the Village can suit you up and get your rolling, whether it's just for yourself or the whole family. Don't forget your safety gear!

Canoe/Kayak Rentals: Lakeside Park has canoe rentals and Wayside Park has kayak rentals so make sure you don’t miss out on a peaceful paddle around Alta Lake.
