GO Fest - Whistler’s Great Outdoors Festival

May is the month when summer and winter meet, where sliding on snow, golfing, bike riding and water sports can all be enjoyed on a single day. GO Fest falls on the Victoria Day Long Weekend, with four days of events to welcome warmer months and get everyone out and enjoying Whistler’s great outdoors.

May 15 - 17, 2015

Various Times WFF Adventure Film Series
Featuring a selection of the world's best independent outdoor adventure films from extreme sport to activism through adventure, the WFF Adventure Film Series, produced by the Whistler Film Festival, includes a 20-film lineup from five countries. The series is programmed in eight screenings over three days. Sailing, Surfing, Climbing, Mountain Climbing, Freeskiing, Mountain Biking, Hiking, Ultra Marathon Running and Paddling are among some of the series' film themes. All films are Whistler premieres, family friendly and rated G (General) or PG (Parental Guidance).

Whistler Blackcomb has lined up some savvy Instagram users and photographers to join us for the weekend and shed some light on photography, Instagram strategy and connecting with your inner wild spirit.

Receive race specific bike training on the Whistler Long Course Triathlon Course from coaches who have competed at the highest level of cycling. Whether or not you are training for a Triathlon, this is an opportunity to ride faster and more efficiently in a fully supported camp environment.

Open Daily Sacred Headwaters - Exhibit and Artist Talks
This exhibit includes photography from landscape photographer Paul Colangelo and artwork from First Nations and BC community members. The show aims to bring people together to learn about the fight to keep resource development in the area ethical and safe. It is a visual celebration of a breathtakingly beautiful and important land – one that not only supports an intricate and rich ecology, but also provides home, life and livelihood to everyone in the area.

Free demos and instructional session led by fly casting instructor, Aaron Goodis. Goodis is certified through the Federation of Fly Fishers and is on the pro staff for Rajeff Sports, G-Loomis and Airflo.

Various Times DiscGO Disc Golf Tournament
The Whistler Disc Golf Course will play host to DiscGO, a three-round disc golf tournament, drawing intermediate, advanced and pro level players to vie for cash prizes.

Various Times GO Fest Family Stroll
Come out on the stroll and take in the activities presented by the Whistler Arts Council at Town Plaza. There is something for everyone from the Kite-Making Workshops to the interactive LEGO displays and Radical Raptors, live local music to hula hoops. Stretching from the Ted Nebbling Bridge to Whistler Olympic Plaza, you don’t want to miss this opportunity so check out the schedule of events on the festival webite for details.

Various Times GO Fest Tennis Championships
Book your spot in the GO Fest Tennis Championships with categories for men, women and doubles. The tournament will take place on both indoor and outdoor courts at the Whistler Racquet Club located at 4500 Northlands Blvd. in Whistler, BC as well as at the Fairmont Whistler Tennis Courts.

Themed around the Elements—snow, water and earth—three outdoor environmental adventures will bring participants to unique natural spaces in Whistler to look, listen and feel. Paddle boarding and BBQ combo at the Nita Lake Lodge. Sold day of, first come, first served. Demo times will be based on demand. GO Stand Up Paddle boarding (SUP) on Nita Lake with demos and trial sessions from local SUP manufacturer, Beaver Boards. SUP is the fastest-growing water sport worldwide and Nita Lake in Whistler's Creekside is perfect for both recreational waterwalkers and adventure SUP racers. All participants who GO SUP will also enjoy a delicious lakeside BBQ from Nita Lake Lodge.

5:30 PM GO Fest Jump Jam
GO Fest Jump Jam is an official stop in the Freeride Mountain Bike Association (FMB) World Tour Calendar as a Bronze Level event. Open Jam session runs from 5:30pm-6:15pm. Judges will select top 10–15 riders for the finals. Finalists will compete in a 2 run, best score finals from 6:30pm-7:30pm Competitors must be at least 16 years old in order to compete in GO Fest Jump Jam.

Beyond Boarding has taken a passion for snowboarding and made it a global force for change. Harness your passion for the outdoors and learn how you too can help bring about a positive environmental change. Tamo Campos is a leading young environmental activist and the grandson of David Suzuki. Campos co-founded Beyond Boarding.

This mountain bike race features three timed downhill stages in Whistler Mountain Bike Park as well as two liaison stages of uphill or cross country sections GO Enduro will challenge riders' technical bike handling skills and test their endurance.

Time TBC The Great Snow-Earth-Water Race
This multisport, team relay features six timed stages starting with ski/snowboard touring and downhill skiing/snowboarding on Whistler Blackcomb, downhill mountain biking in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park from the snow line to the valley, running, canoeing through the River of Golden Dreams, and finishing with cross country biking.

Six athletes armed with a GoPro Hero 4+ Black edition camera will compete for a grand prize of $2,500 and the title of becoming Whistler’s GoPro GOShow Champion. Time TBC The Great Cheakamus River Extreme Kayak Race
The legendary Cheakamus River is synonymous with Whistler kayaking. Class 4+ above kayakers can test their skills in two stages. The first is a down river race where each kayaker is timed individually, the second stage, King of the River, will consist of "head to head" knockout races through a 100m–200m section of the hardest rapids in the river.

1:00 PM The Great Slush Cup
It wouldn't be spring at Whistler Blackcomb without some slush pit action! The Great Slush Cup will challenge competitors to dress to impress and employ all the style and skill they can muster in their attempts to clear the massive slush pit. This fun event will be free for all participants skiing and riding that day and registration will take place at the event.

Come together to bring light and love through an Events for a Cause fundraiser to support the people affected by the Nepal Earthquakes. This inspiring community event is raising funds to help displaced and vulnerable people after the earthquake. Join Erin Anderson for yoga, tunes, draw prizes and surprises—all for a great cause. Donate what you can, it all makes a difference.

Time TBC Painting the Peaks - Whistler - Plein Air-Artist Viewings
Experience the adventurous spirit of outdoor artists, who represent a tradition going back to the historic "Group of Seven" painters. White Dog Whistler Studio Gallery artists will take their brushes, canvases, sculpting tools and easels to some of the stunning vistas around Whistler area, sharing their passion as they take you along an interactive adventure through the process of art creation.
