When you think of Whistler, shopping may not be the first word that pops into your mind. But anyone lucky enough to spend time in this little mountain town knows that there’s more to Whistler than the stunning scenery. One of our favourites? The unique shopping scene.

From adventure gear and the perfect toque to high fashion and delicate pieces of jewelry, there’s always something special to find in Whistler’s stores. And, because many of the stores are locally owned, you’ll find pieces that carry that mountain charm with them.

Take advantage of the calm before the ski and snowboard season, and find your new, favourite fit this fall. Whether you’re looking for deals on gear for the upcoming winter season, stylish outfits to wear out to one of Whistler’s award-winning restaurants, or something to lounge in after a day spent hiking, skiing (or hot tubbing), these are some of the best places in Whistler to shop this fall and winter.

Fewer products, smaller collections and better materials are at the core of each piece that comes from this Vancouver Island based-brand. ecologyst’s selection of neutral sweaters, jackets, shirts, pants and hats are made for all those adventure-seeking, outdoor-loving and eco-conscious customers.

All their pieces are made in North America or in their new Victoria factory with natural fibres like Donegal wool, organic cotton, Ventile and ZQ Merino wool. It’s also worth noting that all their clothes come with a lifetime guarantee (that’s right, you can send back damaged pieces for them to fix or replace). Their new Anorak Jacket is a must-have for this fall.

INSIDER TIP: Grab a coffee and baked goods to munch on while you shop from their adorable in-store cafe.

When the owners of The Circle had their first kid, Portia, they went to find a kids store in Whistler that sold the type of clothing that reflected their own wardrobe. When they couldn’t find one they created The Circle Kids

Located directly across from their adult counterpart, The Circle Kids is the perfect place to shop for snow gear, clothing and accessories, as well as toys for newborns all the way up to 14-year-olds. Head here this fall to pick up fun beanies, sweaters and snow gear for your little one.

Amos & Andes

Whistler’s favourite place to get that quintessential winter sweater.

Everyone has their favourite sweater, and odds are, if they’ve been to Whistler, they probably got it from Amos & Andes. This locally owned store has been supplying locals and visitors with unique, cozy, high-quality sweaters and more for over 20 years. The store itself may be small, but with sweaters made from wool, alpaca, mohair and cashmere, you can easily spend hours finding the perfect piece.

Some of our favourites? First, a Cowichan sweater. These iconic knits are inspired by the 150-year-old traditional art form created by the native Coast Salish people of Vancouver Island. And of course, the famous Dale of Norway sweaters. Made of 100% wool, this classic winter sweater brand is legendary for the quality and warmth of their pieces ever since they were established in 1879.

FUN FACT: A gentleman once drove five hours to Amos & Andes to find a Cowichan sweater similar to the one his Indigenous wife knitted for him 40 years ago. After trying on just one sweater, he made the five-hour drive back to Williams Lake!
