From Whistler to Sochi: Mercedes Nicoll

The 2014 Winter Games in Sochi Russia officially kicked off today and throngs of spectators turned up at Whistler Olympic Plaza to cheer on Canada’s team and relive some of the good times we had here for the 2010 Winter Games

Per capita, Whistler is sending more athletes to compete in these games than any other community in Canada so The Insider sat down last week with local snowboarder Mercedes Nicoll, before she headed over for her 3rd Winter Games.

Here’s wishing the best of luck to Mercedes and all the other athletes competing over in Sochi. Back here at home, Whistler is hosting and action packed schedule of events to keep the spirit of the games burning bright.Go for Gold!

Feet Banks

Feet Banks moved to Whistler at age 12 so his parents could live the dream and ski as much as possible. He ended up living it too. After leaving home Feet did a few good stints in warmer climates and 4 years of writing school before returning to the mountains to make ski movies, hammer out a journalism career and avoid the 9-5 lifestyle as long as possible. He’s been a hay farmer, a hole digger, a magazine editor and has a jump named after him on Blackcomb Mountain, Feet’s Air. It’s tiny.
