The 2014 Winter Games in Sochi Russia officially kicked off today and throngs of spectators turned up at Whistler Olympic Plaza to cheer on Canada’s team and relive some of the good times we had here for the 2010 Winter Games.

Per capita, Whistler is sending more athletes to compete in these games than any other community in Canada so The Insider sat down last week with local snowboarder Mercedes Nicoll, before she headed over for her 3rd Winter Games.

Here’s wishing the best of luck to Mercedes and all the other athletes competing over in Sochi. Back here at home, Whistler is hosting and action packed schedule of events to keep the spirit of the games burning bright. Go for Gold!
