Creating for Cravings: Whistler’s Chefs Take on Vegan Dessert Challenge

One thing you can say about Whistler’s restaurants – they rise to the occasion. Whether it’s hosting incredible multi course dinners at Cornucopia for 20 years running, feeding hungry skiers and boarders at après or providing holiday meals as good as home cooking – they’re up for the challenge.

So it’s not surprising that nine chefs have come on board to compete in the Earthsave Whistler’s Devilishly Decadent Vegan Dessert Challenge, running from November 1 – 14. Each venue was asked to create a unique vegan dessert to go on their menus for two weeks, and diners are invited to try the desserts and vote online for the winners in three categories – ‘Most Decadent’, ‘Most Creative’, ‘Best Overall’.

While vegan and vegetarian food are on the menu at many places in Whistler it wasn’t enough for Hayley Ingman, Co-Founder of Earthsave Whistler. She wanted to throw out the challenge for an oft neglected, but highly sought after portion of the menu – dessert. “We have such talented and creative chefs in Whistler,” Hayley notes. “But we seem to have a lack of vegan dessert options in restaurants, so this challenge gives chefs the opportunity to do something a little different and have fun with some new dessert options that they can present for the 2-week challenge.”

Anyone can hit up these venues before November 14 to sample the sweets and vote for their favourite (according to Earthsave ordering dessert alone is a-ok – hello dessert crawl!). What better way to spend a few nights than dipping into delicious, thoughtful and creative treats?
