Whistler’s three Olympic competition venues were designed to take advantage of the natural wilderness surrounding them; the mountainous terrain and organic topography were utilized to create the jumps, trails and slopes needed for the races. Inspired by nature, these venues complement Whistler’s indigenous environment.

The venues are open for you to experience now: take a tour or try out the cross-country or alpine trails before the athletes arrive.

During the Paralympic Games, Whistler’s Olympic competition venues will host alpine skiing at Whistler Creekside and Nordic events (biathlon and cross-country skiing) at Whistler Olympic Park.

 

Celebration Plaza

Celebration Plaza will be the anchor of the Celebration Sites; in addition to hosting major evening musical and cultural performances, the Closing Ceremonies of the Paralympic Winter Games will take place here along with live competition broadcasts and a Breakfasts with Champions program.

Celebration Sites

During the 2010 Games, there will be six different Celebration Sites set up throughout Whistler Village featuring extensive and interactive arts and entertainment programming. From morning until night, there will be something inspiring and engaging to see at every turn.

1. Celebration Plaza
Celebration Plaza will be the anchor of the Celebration Sites and along with the Medal Ceremonies, Paralympic Closing Ceremonies and live competition broadcasts, will offer Breakfasts with Champions and major concerts and performances.

2. Town Plaza
In Town Plaza, a more intimate setting exists for family oriented programming. From the interactive Kidzone to storytelling, singer/songwriters and school choirs and bands, there will be something for the whole family.

3. Village Common
Village Common will host an art showcase with exhibitions and fringe theatre performances. With lots of places to linger and cozy patios to chat with friends, this Celebration Site will be Whistler’s alternative edge.

4. Village Square
As Whistler’s original community celebration site, Village Square will feature a large stage with a focus on live music performances by regional, national and international headliners. A large screen will show post-medal concerts, competition highlights, short films, new media and audience generated content.

5. Mountain Square
Before reaching Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains, a stop in Mountain Square will offer national and international street theatre, circus arts and dance. This is also the feature site for Aboriginal performing arts. Add demonstration sports and street hockey, and there will be lots to see and do in Mountain Square.

6. Skiers Plaza
At the base of Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains, Skiers Plaza is always bustling with activity: skiers hopping on lifts, snowboarders finishing runs and visitors and locals alike enjoying après at the many outdoor patios. As a Celebration Site, there will be full sport competition and Medal Ceremonies broadcasts along with concerts, short films, new media and audience generated content displayed on giant screens for all to see. Street performers will also be on hand to entertain those waiting to board the gondolas.
