Nordic Combined event inspires thoughts of multi-sport
adventures in Whistler
American athletes won both the gold and silver medals
for Nordic Combined events at Whistler Olympic Park on February 25,
2010, proving their prowess in both cross-country skiing and ski
jumping. Whistler boasts its own multi-adventure event during the
spring and early summer. Informally, and fondly, known as the
Whistler triathlon, this opportunity is possible during the
seasonal transition when both spring and winter activities can be
enjoyed simultaneously — and even all in one day!
Swoosh, slide, glide, ride, tee-up and so much
more…Whistler’s spring and early summer visitors may
be lucky enough to experience the overlapping of spring skiing with
the opening of Whistler’s golf courses just when its
cross-country mountain biking trails become ready to ride in the
Valley. Embracing the start of summer, while still enjoying a taste
of winter activities, is a fabulous way to combine extraordinary
adventure with memorable experiences. You can create and
participate in your own Whistler triathlon during the months of
May, June and July. It won’t win you a place on the podium,
but it will definitely earn you a well-deserved spot on the patio
at the end of an unforgettable day in the mountains.
Since Whistler's mountains top out at just about a mile
high, spring arrives to Whistler Valley long before it reaches the
peaks. The valley greens up while the glacier on Blackcomb Mountain
stays open for skiing and riding into late July. That means in May,
June, and into late July, you can ski in the morning, golf in the
afternoon and spend the evening cycling the trails or in the
Whistler Mountain Bike Park.
