Postcards to the World
There are moments when we experience something so special and remarkable, that our mind immediately shifts to a friend or family member who would enjoy it just as much. It’s these moments that transform into the quintessential postcard statement, “wish you were here”.
Moments worth sharing were plenty during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. There were so many spontaneous celebrations, shows of camaraderie, new friendships formed and stunning musical displays. There were also sobering moments where the performances of athletes and displays of sportsmanship and teamwork, have allowed the opportunity for self reflection.
In Whistler, the mood remained jubilant. Sunny skies and warm temperatures harkened ear-to-ear smiles and patios that were hopping. Postcards from Whistler have reflected this mood, and this feeling of privilege – to be in this place, at this time.
And while the Games was an extraordinary time to be in Whistler, almost any time is a great time to be here. In winter, Whistler is a wonderland of snowy outdoor adventure and cozy indoor relaxation. Best known for alpine skiing, Whistler offers a range of winter activities including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, and ziplining. Whistler boasts both indoor and outdoor spas, welcoming coffee shops and eateries and arts and entertainment to suit a range of preferences. In summer, snowy slopes make way for wild flowers and Whistler is transformed into a mountain paradise for hikers, bikers, golfers, lake swimmers, and village wanderers.
In some ways the Olympics changed Whistler, affording the resort improved highway access, new resort amenities and a more accessible village. But Whistler is unchanged in what matters most – a heart that remains true to a spirit of adventure for all.
