2010 Olympic Winter Games Began at Whistler Olympic Park

February 12 2010

Olympic StoriesSnow provided a white carpet welcome to spectators at Whistler Olympic Park as the 2010 Olympic Winter Games got underway. World Cup events in Olympic sports were held at Whistler Olympic Park during winter 2008 / 2009.  However, the Normal Hill Individual Ski Jumping qualification round was the first 2010 Olympic Winter Games event to take place at this unforgettable venue.

Built for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Whistler Olympic Park is the first Olympic Nordic venue to include all three traditional Nordic sport stadiums in one site: cross-country, ski jumping and biathlon. The Park hosted 28 medal events in February 2010, as well as the 2010 Paralympic Games cross-country skiing and biathlon events in March 2010.

Olympic StoriesWhistler Olympic Park is located 18 kilometres south of Whistler in the stunning Callaghan Valley. The Callaghan Valley offers exhilarating activity options in incredibly scenic surroundings. For example, in the winter, snowshoe trails extend into the wilderness and carefully groomed cross-country ski trails invite exploration.

The core Whistler Olympic Park venue including the day lodge, parking and competition trails will be closed until summer 2010. However, when Whistler Olympic Park re-opens to the public, exciting activities such as a biathlon experience and ski jump tours are expected to provide even more reasons to visit the Callaghan Valley.

Olympic StoriesUnbelievable athletic ability wasn't the only thing on display at Whistler Olympic Park during the 2010 Winter Games. Naturally spectacular views provided a glorious backdrop for podium-worthy performances. Callaghan Valley panoramas promise to enhance every memorable moment at the Park — starting with those shared by ski jumping athletes and their passionate fans.
