Armchair Books is Whistler's perfect little book haven centrally located beside the Grocery Store in the Village Plaza in front of Gone Bakery. Find magazines, novels, books, kids' books, newspapers, and more.
Armchair Books is pleased to offer a selection of hardcover fiction, non-fiction, and children's books on First Nation's culture of the Pacific Northwest. Divided into two categories (art and culture) you can find books on First Nation art styles, totem poles, basic forms and spirit faces. A recent addition to the collection is a book on the Inukshuk.
An inukshuk is a stone construction from the Arctic (more Inuit than Pacific Northwest in style) that can act in the place of a human being. They have also been built to serve as directional signs, markers for sites of important events, food caches, or rest stops, memorials to beloved individuals, aids in hunting; and even as surrogate caribou herders.
A rendition of the Inukshuk was chosen as the emblem for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver and Whistler.
